Vince and I did  the Circle Route yesterday (Victoria to Port Renfrew to Lake Cowichan and home – the old logging road between Port Renfrew and Lake Cowichan has been significantly improved). We paused in Port Renfrew to do the loop hike at Botancial Beach and paused again at the beach.

At Botanical Beach, we found an eagle perched in the tree coming out of the cliff – about 30 – 40 feet above us. The eagle did nothing spectacular, except just sit there. The entertainment came from a hummingbird. This one fellow took exception to the eagle being where it was and it flew within inches of the eagle, buzzing him and chirping fiercely at him. And the eagle just ignored him.

Who knew a hummingbird could be so aggressive???
