My medical oncologist called me on Saturday to identify the protocol she is going to start me on. Hopes to have approval quickly so that I can go into the BC Cancer Agency pharmacy to pick up my oral medications this week.
The drug protocol is UBRAVPALAI, which is comprised of two drugs [click on the name of the drug to open a patient handout]—
Palbociclib – Palbociclib is a targeted (biological) therapy. This group of drugs block the growth and spread of cancer. They target and interfere with processes in the cells that cause cancer to grow. Palbociclib is the non-branded name. Its branded name is Ibrance.
Letrozole – Aromatase inhibitors are a group of drugs used to treat breast cancer in women who have been through the menopause. Aromatase inhibitors help reduce the amount of oestrogen made in the body…some oestrogen is still made in body fat. This process involves an enzyme (a type of protein) called aromatase. Aromatase inhibitors stop this enzyme from working. This means there’s less oestrogen in the body to encourage breast cancer cells to grow.
