mom’s engagement ring

Had some tears yesterday and here’s why: my brother sent me Mom’s engagement ring.

As Mom put her affairs in order once we had her terminal cancer diagnosis, she and I had a discussion about her engagement ring and wedding band. I said that I’d take the band, but Art should have the engagement ring for his lady love one day. And that’s how they were divided.

Recently Art and his lady love, Corrine, had the ring appraised, cleaned and claws fixed. After that they decided that I should have the ring. But they didn’t tell me. They just sent it to me.

I wish you could have seen the expression on my face when I opened the parcel and there it was. I have always thought it is one of the most beautiful rings I have ever seen and, of course, the sentimentality behind the ring is profound. It has its stories with it and they make it all the more special.

I’m glad I have it.

  1. That’s very cool, and extremely thoughtful of your brother to give that to you and all restored and prettied up.
Things like that are very precious, and knowing how close you were to your mom, makes it all the more special.
    Enjoy it.
