This is a bit of this and a bit of that…
This has been one of my most uncomfortable weeks. I have finally had reactions to the radiation – mostly skin. The worst is the rash. It’s like an allerygy rash, raised and VERY itchy. Prescription corisone cream barely helps. I’ve also had some blistering on the breast, like a sunburn might cause. The other side effect is partial swelling in the esophagus, towards the base of my throat – it makes swallowing solid food a little tight, but otherwise breathing and swallowing with no difficulty.
But the good news is: Monday is my LAST radiation treatment. That’s 5 weeks and 25 treatments later. I can only hope the side effects don’t last long.
It’s been 7 months since diagnosis. I’m only 2/3 the way there on this part of the journey and once again I find myself a bit lagging in spirit. The hardest part right now is to keep going without the answer to the most important question. But worst of all, I know that even after all that I’m doing (chemo, radiation and surgery), it’s the 5-year mark that’s the next goal.
Anyway, it isn’t much but here it is.
