owl part 2

You might have noticed the image in the header of my blog. Please allow me to introduce you to a barred owl.

Last night, Vince and I were sitting in the living room. He was working on a model and I was reading. Then “thunk” against the side window.

We look at each other and I said I’d be happy to go on the balcony and check, but he could go first.

We turned off all the lights and Vince said to wait a minute. He walked to the side window and said that the owl was on the roof of the building next door.

I got him his camera, and voila, here is a picture of the owl.

In the meantime, I noticed something very interesting about the lovies. The were frozen in place. And I mean frozen. I could touch Jasper, stroke his feet, everything without him trying to avoid me (usual tactic number one) or biting me (the second tactic of choice).  Aja was just as frozen. Only when we closed the curtain (now to be a nightly thing) and turn the lights back on did either of them move. I now know one of their defence mechanisms. It’s a little disconcerting to think of the lovies as food.

We don’t know if it’s the same owl. But it appeared okay and did fly off.

Never a dull moment.
