Today I started oral chemo.

This is how it’s packaged:

To say I am apprehensive is an understatement. I remember well the cumulative effect. And the potential side effects are the usual:

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea/vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Mouth sores

Plus a special new one: possibility of hand-foot syndrome.

Goals are to stay hydrated, on top of any symptoms (CALL! nurse line before anything gets worse!!!), and plan smaller, more (eat more often) and bland meals.

Also had my home assessment today. Learned that I qualify for BC palliative care benefits, which includes medical equipment loaners (wheelchair, hospital bed, tub rail, bed rail, etc.), and home support services (help with dressing/washing, respite for Vince, and nurse care).

Oh ya, hair loss from radiation started this week. Apparently right on time. I have some left, but pretty sparse now.

That’s life.

There’s really nothing else to say except you’re loved, you’re tough and there’s lots of people in your corner!
